



Veterans Post to Meet
Friday, March 7th, 2008
Lewiston
- Public Relations Officer, Paul R. Bernard is announcing the
2008 Membership Drive of the Franco American War Veterans Post 31.
The Lewiston Franco American War Veterans Post 31began in October of 1986, with twenty five members and presently has approximately 150 members.
The post is active in the community aiding veterans, donating comfort items to the Department of Voluntary Services at the Togus Veterans Medical Center. Donating gifts, clothing, and toys to Montello School. Sending packages to our men and women in the Armed Forces. Collecting aluminum can tabs and donating the proceeds to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The post members and auxiliary also places over 2,300 American Flags every year on Memorial Day at Saint Peters Cemetery.
The post is a proud member of the Lewiston Auburn Veterans Council which was responsible for the founding and development of the Veterans Memorial Park.

Franco American Post 31 Installs Officers

LEWISTON
- The Franco American War Veterans Post 31 held installation of officers, with a
light lunch served by the Auxiliary, at the Multi-Purpose Center. The following
officers were elected:
Commander, Willie Danforth; senior vice commander, Normand Deschenes; junior
vice commander, Normand Bussiere; adjutant, Lindy McCallum; quartermaster, Bob
Levesque; chaplain, Don Dube; historian, Cecile Burgoyne; judge advocate, Bert
Dutil; officer of the day, Paul Emond; trustees, three years, Ed Samson, two
years, George Fleury and one year, Leo Tardif.
Unit 31 also held installation. Danforth, with the help of the post and
auxiliary, presented Bert Dutil, outgoing chairman of the Lewiston Auburn
Veterans Council, a digital camera for his service to the post and council.
"Just Us" entertainers will appear at a Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Saturday,
December 8th, at Lewiston Middle School, Central Avenue. Proceeds will benefit
veterans. Tickets will be sold at the door.
Post to Host Convention

- The Franco American War Veterans Post
31 of Lewiston will host the national convention on Friday and Saturday,
September 21st and 22nd at the Fireside Inn in Auburn. Many activities
will be held, with a banquet on Saturday evening. Working committees include,
seated from the left, Pauline Levesque, Cecile Burgoyne, Paul Emond, National
Commander Willie Danforth, Bob Levesque and Auxiliary President Fern Ronan;
standing, Bert Dutil, Maurice Dutil, Sandra McGill, Arlene Tierney, Ed Samson,

The Franco American War Veterans Post 31 of Lewiston recently gave scholarships
to three individuals: Nicole Bussiere, David Moreau and Kevin Levesque.
Following the ceremony, a light lunch was served. Thirty Veterans of Foreign War and Auxiliary
members were present. From the left are Maurice Dutil, Scholarship Committee
chairman; Armand Bussiere, who received the check for his granddaughter, Nicole;
Kevin Levesque; Leandre Buteau, who received the check for his grandson, David;
and Post Commander Willie Danforth.

LEWISTON - The Franco-American War Veterans Post 31 and
Auxiliary recently held installation of officers for 2007 at the Multi-Purpose
Center. Each group held a short meeting before the meal. The installation followed. Post 31 officers are: Jirard DerBoghosian, chaplain; Richard Giem,
first vice commander; Willie Danforth, commander; Lindy McCollum, second vice
commander; George Fleury, trustee; Bob Levesque, quartermaster; Cecile Bourgoyne,
historian; Paul Emond, officer of the day; Norm Bussiere, trustee; Ed Samson,
adjutant; and Bert Dutil, judge advocate.
Auxiliary officers are: Brenda Bussiere, secretary; Fern Ronan, president;
Arlene Tierney, treasurer; Sandra McGill, flag bearer; Nancy Tardif, chaplain;
Rachel Gravel, conductress; Carmen Palardy, second vice president; and Terry
Labrecque, inner guard.

Lewiston - Local veterans met with U.S. Congressman Tom Allen at Tim Horton's, Coffee Klatsch, Post 32 in Lewiston recently for morning coffee and a discussion on veterans' affairs.

The Coffee Klatch, Post 32 is a casual social gathering of veterans who meet for coffee and conversation.
