Spent Shells

 

 

 

21 spent shells were ceremonially placed in the Memorial Time Capsule Vault. 1 from each ceremony that was placed at the apex by Tyler Sibley, 4 that were placed in flowers and 13 from the dedication ceremony on Monday, October 1st that were placed in the vault by Chaplain Paul R. Bernard.

 

1 spent shell was presented to United States Navy, Command Master Chief Roger Dumont ret.

20 spent shells from the retirement ceremony of Command Master Chief, Donald Holman were kept by the Brunswick Naval Air Station Firing Squad to be distributed to Naval personnel in Brunswick.  

4 spent shells were placed in flowers and then placed in the Memorial Vault by Veteran of Foreign Wars volunteer.

 

             

1 spent shell was presented to the Honorable Lewiston Mayor; Laurent "Larry" F. Gilbert Sr., Vietnam Veteran, former Lewiston Police Chief, United States Marshall District of Maine, Staff Assistant to Senator Collins and Associate Director of the Maine Community Policing Institute at the University of Maine in Augusta.

 

 

1 spent shell was presented to the Honorable Auburn Mayor; John Jenkin, former Maine State Senator, Lewiston Mayor and consultant to the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.

 

 

 

1 spent shell was presented to each Brunswick Naval Air Station Firing Squad and Color Guard Member. Patrick McGuire firing commander, Tyler Sibley placed spent shells at apex, Steven Boldt, Joe Collard, Jose Garcia, Jason Ortiz, Mike Walden, Jeremy Austin, Thomas Oliver and Natasha Montiel (12 total).

 

1 spent shell was presented to a young visitor by United States Navy, firing squad commander Patrick McGuire.

 

 

 

1 spent shell was presented to Lewiston Auburn Veterans Council founder, Bert Dutil.

 

 

1 spent shell was presented to Commander Wilfred "Willie" Danforth, Franco American War Veterans and member of the Lewiston Auburn Veterans Council.

 

 

 

1 spent shell was presented to Commander Warren K. Clark, Turner Memorial Post 111 and American Legion 3rd District Sergeant at Arms. Clark is also a Lifetime member of the Marine Corps League. Clark was a truck driver in Nam when he drove over a mine and was blown up. He was the only survivor in the truck the other comrades lost their lives.

 

2 spent shells were presented to Peter & Ann Dehetre Arsenault, Co-Venue Leaders of the Fortin Group, Dignity memorial Vietnam Wall.

 

 

 

 

 

1 spent shell was presented to Joe Armstrong, President of Rolling Thunder, Inc. Maine Chapter 2, Sanford Maine.

"All gave Some - Some gave All". Rolling Thunder was instrumental in the success of the riders event on Sunday, September 23rd.

 

 

 

 

1 spent shell was presented to Steve Malo, vice president of the Rolling Thunder, Inc.. "If We Don't Care Who Will". The dedication and commitment of Joe and Steve and the Rolling Thunder members had a tremendous effect on the entrance of the Vietnam Traveling Wall. 1 Spent shell was presented to Roger Martel, Rogers commitment from the earliest of the planning days to his complete surrender of his life from Saturday, September 22nd when the 133rd arrived with the base to the final burial of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Vault was a testimony of his complete dedication to the Wall Experience. A piece of all of our hearts is buried in that vault.

  1 spent shell was presented to Gary O'Connell, American Legion Rider, Post 153 New Auburn.

 

1 spent shell was presented to Don Gosselin, American Legion, Harry J. Conway Post 135, Sabattus, Maine.

 

 

20 spent shells were presented to the Fortin Group from the opening ceremony of the Vietnam Memorial Wall. Peter Arsenault accepted the shadow box with the 20 spent shells.

 

 

Peter Arsenault is still overwhelmed by the presentation of the 20 spent shells secured in a shadow box picture frame with a picture of the three Vietnam veterans walking off in the sunset.
