Veterans Day Ceremony

 

 

American Legion Commander Ed P. Nadeau, Harry J. Conway Post 135 speaks to the assembly for the special Veterans Day Event. Maine Corps Staff Sergeant Singly delivered the Marine Corps birthday presentation as Post Commander Ed Nadeau listened.

 

 

Americanism Officer, Joe Michaud also had the opportunity to address the crowd. Joe enjoys volunteering around the post and especially enjoys promoting the wonderful programs offered to the youth of our community.

 

 

 

The special guest of honor was Guy Frechette, Vietnam Veteran and recipient of the shadow box containing the Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, United States Vietnam Service Medal, RVN Gallantry Cross with Palm Medal.

 

 

American Legion 1st Vice Commander Ron Caron, Staff Sergeant Singly, 1st Sergeant Wilson, Vietnam Veteran Guy Frechette, Major Wirtz, Army Captain Steve Caron, American Legion Commander Ed Nadeau. Marines were from Company A, 1st Battalion. 25th Marines, a reserve infantry battalion in the United States Marine Corps located throughout New England consisting of approximately 750 Marines and Sailors. They fall under the 25th Marine regiment and the 4th Marine Division. The Alpha Company is from Topsham, Maine.

 

Legion members, family and friends enjoy looking over the memorabilia in the post. A beautiful patriotic cake with the American Flag on top was a special treat. 

 

 

 

The POW/MIA Empty Chair calls attention to Americans still unaccounted for from World War II, Korea, Vietnam and other conflicts. Resolution 288, adopted at the 67th National Convention, encourages all American Legion organizations to implement the empty chair program at all meetings. As a continual physical symbol of the POW/MIAs and the cause for which we stand, namely their return or full accounting.

 

Americanism Officer, Joe Michaud promotes service to God and Country. Programs such as Boys State, Children and Youth Programs, National High School Oratorical Contest, Boy Scouts of America, Junior Shooting Sports Program, Legion School Programs, Education, Immigration & Naturalization, and Counter Subversive Activities Program are a few of the programs the Americanism Officer promotes.
