Turner Veterans Memorial Park

& Visitors Center

Turner Memorial Tribute

The purpose of the Turner Veterans Memorial Park and visitors center is not to glorify war. It is to recognize the sacrifices of all veterans which gave his or her family and friends an opportunity to enjoy a life style of freedom, democracy and prosperity.

The focal point of the park will be a landscaped granite memorial stone honoring the memory of all veterans which was purchased by the Town of Turner years ago in memory of all who served our country in the Armed Services of the United States.

This stone to the left will be located where the Star is located in the sample picture below in front of the United States Flag.

The five official armed forces flags that commemorate each of the military branches of the United States and the POW-MIA flag will be positioned in a half circle in the back with the United States Flag in Front of the circle with the State of Maine flag below it. Visitors will be invited to relax, reflect and pay respect to the men and women who answered the call of duty of all wars. At its own special place will be the World War I & World War II stone purchased by the Town of Turner many years ago in memory of the men and women of Turner who served in the armed forces during World War I and World War II. (Also adding Korea and Vietnam)

It will also serve as an educational history lesson for the Leavitt High School, Turner Elementary and Tripp Middle School.

The park will be used for local remembrances, candle light vigils, and yearly remembrances on September 11, Veterans Day, Flag Day, and other Military observances.

Donations: As a result of its tax-exempt, nonprofit organization status, donations will range from cash to flowers, shrubs to benches and flowering trees (such as weeping cherry or snow fountain).

The Veterans Park and Visitors Center will solicit private & public funds to enhance its efforts and maintain its continuance. Many donors feel the Turner Veterans Park will be an excellent mechanism to provide community assets or to make tax deductible contributions in honor of their deceased loved ones.

Landscaping Donations:
Each year the Turner Veterans Park and Visitors Center will accept a number of donations of flowers, shrubs, landscaping to maintain the parks aesthetic design. The landscaping donations will serve as donations that keep on giving to the community for years to come.

Memorial Bench Donations: Courage/Honor/Sacrifice/Freedom
Benches are a very popular donation item for the park. Often benches are donated in memory of a loved one. Appropriate bench locations are coordinated with the Turner Veterans Council board.

Here is a sample picture of the inscribed stones that will remember veterans of all wars. They will be placed in the victors circle where the flags will be located behind. Stones can be purchased to honor family members as they become part of this beautiful memorial. The Turner Memorial Veterans Park seeks to honor all the local residents who served in the military. Markers would list the Turner Veterans of all the previous wars as shown below. The call to duty and sacrifice for Turner residents first came during the Revolutionary War and has occurred many times during the past two centuries of Turner history.

To have a name engraved on a stone at the Turner Veterans Memorial Park, an individual must be a Veteran or currently active in the military. A copy of the DD214 is needed to verify eligibility status. The cost of engraving is 30.00 per name.
